Monuments are Rust's loot heart: scrap, components, weapons and the keycard path all run through them. But not every monument demands the same prep. Choose one based on your gear, keycards and server population.
Keycard tiers
Puzzles open with three card colors. Insert a fuse and flip switches to power them.
- Green card (Tier 1): low risk, beginner-friendly.
- Blue card (Tier 2): usually needs green + blue, moderate radiation.
- Red card (Tier 3): usually three cards, high radiation and strong NPCs.
| Tier | Example monuments | Prep |
|---|---|---|
| Green / low rad | Supermarket, Gas Station, Mining Outpost, Satellite Dish | Light clothes, some food |
| Blue / mid rad | Harbor, Water Treatment, Airfield, Train Yard | Rad protection, weapon |
| Red / high rad | Launch Site, Military Tunnels, Nuke Silo | Full hazmat, strong weapon, team |
Launch Site has the highest radiation in the game and the Bradley "tank"; carry hazmat and medical before soloing red-card monuments.
Recycler spots
Many monuments have recyclers: Outpost and Bandit Camp (safe zones), Supermarket, Gas Station, Harbor, Water Treatment, Mining Outpost, Airfield and Lighthouse. Turn components into scrap here.
Plan the exit, not just the entry
- Plan the return route, not only the loot room; nearby ridges and roads are often watched.
- Even a low-tier monument is ambush-prone at peak hours.
- Before spending a card, check that the puzzle's power is actually on.
The monument roster and which card is needed where can change with updates; treat this as a general frame and verify details in-game.
Monument runs are safer with low latency; fix your FPS and network settings. To gear up with the scrap you gather, see the farming guide.
